*rarely got turned for pace

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Poyet plays at a much higher tempo to Noble but being only 19 I suppose that is to be expected.

What is impressive about Poyet is his range of passing and his positioning. He was in terrific positions when we were not in possession and Sheffield United were attempting to attack. He won quite a few interceptions and rarely got turntable for pace.

He has got a very old head on young shoulders that is for sure.

Him and Diame worked really well in the middle. I just felt that Morrison fucked things up as he was dropping too deep and standing on everyone's fucking toes asking for the ball.

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Jussi (6) Not much to do all game except a couple of catches. No saves from 5 penalties and you can see he doesn't have the reaction at 39.

Demel (6) played solid in defence, too far forward most times without contributing much to the attack.

Potts (5) A little lightweight in defence, a lot of times he had the ball on the left, he chose to pass back instead of initiating an attack. too passive and wont challenge cresswell. needs to get to the byline and cross like the modern fullback.

Burke (6) looked okay, some good tackles and runs, but also lost the ball and misplaced a few passes, still learning

Reid (6) I thought he did pretty well except the obvious O.G, he dealt with a few long balls well and commanded the defence. would have been 7 if not for OG

Poyet (7) Looked solid and controlled the game, he dictated the tempo we played at and knew when to play it short or long, won the ball a few times and showed some neat touches. he plays very similar to noble and likes to drop deep. can't see both playing at the same time

Morrison (6) played far too deep today for me, often retrieving the ball in defence, showed the best skill in the game surpassing 4 oppositions before running backwards, needs to link with the front man and get forward more often. his ball retention is good but he needs to use his talent in the right areas

Diame (5) showed some neat skills and played his part. also saw him mispass that led to a counter attack, and again he was running into blind alleys, not a touch on Kouyate

Sahko (5) Yes he scored, but was pretty ineffective, he definitely can't play right attack in a 433, was too far forward often waiting for the ball to come to him rather than coming for the ball. didn't see much of him. would be 4 if not for the goal

Vaz Te (3) where is the guy from the championship, he just seems like a different player, no pace and no skill. What does he contribute to the attack?

Valencia (4) Very lightweight to play as a lone striker. was played through 1on1 by Diame but shot straight at GK, needs to improve his finishing, he has lots of pace but I can't see him being effective in our formation. Carlton will start on Saturday

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Where was Valencia played? Given what we've spent on him, will he ultimately be played through the middle or wide? Sakho played through middle or wide?

Fifth Column 2:16 Wed Aug 27
Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Diane and Morrison were competing for number of times to get tackled whilst running through midfield.

Sakho and Valencia looked promising for players who have only just joined. I thought Burke and Potts looked good.

toadinthehole 2:09 Wed Aug 27
Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Even though Sahko scored, he clearly was not a right winger, stood too far up the pitch waiting for the ball, never coming deep to take it. once downing came on it was a different story on the right wing

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Like the fact no one mentions winston reid, shadow of his former self, defending shoddy. Passing wayward, didnt seem to want to be there. £9m take it

I'm going for Sakho as motm, he scored

RAV is probably only at 50%. Just back in training innit.

"Morrison needs to run at defences rather than doing simple lay offs"

Maybe he's been told by OAF to keep it simple? 'None of that fancy stuff'

Problem is, every time he did run with it he loses the ball. For the little gangster he seems to think he is, he's very weak in the tackle.

Also add that Burke looked very comfortable and like he's ability to get forward

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Just got back from the game and my views are

Poyet is and will be a very tidy player
Ravel good to get some minutes but faded 2nd half
Potts won't be a regular in the squad
Valencia/sakho good to get game time
Diame very busy but fades after 45 mins
Vaz te needs to be sold

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?

I ain't havin it. ValenciaSON looked awesome the 10 mins he came on the other day.

Mr T. 1:36 Wed Aug 27
Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
On the whole I though we played ok throughout the team, with the one notable exception of Ravel Morrison who I thought gave a perfect example of the definition of 'show pony'. He lost the ball nearly (if not every) time he tried to run with it and contributed very little as an attacking threat.

Poyet looked good, I actually though Valencia showed promise and Sakho was fine.

We really should have won the game easily - they didn't manage a single shot on target from what I can remember.

Let them enjoy their moment - they'll be off to Crawley Town in a few weeks.

Ohh and Potts will never be a premier league player

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
Diame MoTM?! Fucking hell.
He's absolutely fucking toilet.
His passing is woeful. I don't get him. Why is he taking home 35k a week? Just to shoulder barge people?
The more he plays the lower in the premiership we will finish.

amazes me how little some people know about football

Re: Player Ratings for tonight?
I think some of those players were in the shop window for a last minute sale, Demel, Morrison, Vaz Te, Diame, got a run out and all looked comfortable on the ball , but don't for god sake get injured, does it explain why Morrison was sitting so deep.

Second half complete lack of penetration and pot shots from outside the box, we did miss a target man and Valencia and Zarate later would have been better served by through balls to feet with follow up overlaps, but then there could have been a clattering injury.

Neither side played with real passion and drive so I guess we got what we paid £10 for. So for all that I don't think ratings for today would be that useful, even for the youngsters.
